As someone about to finish book 6 with my daughter, this post was so fun to read! Lots of interesting parallels to think about here! Also, I love the message the book sends about the power of deep friendship and mentorship - within and across generations! And I was glad to see an acknowledgment of some of the pieces we wouldn't want to copy! I could do without the "I shall not tell lies" etched in blood.

Owls and Newts are based on GCSES (O levels, in JK Rowling's day) and A levels. These externally assessed exams are constantly criticised by some in education for being to fact focused and too exam based. But I agree with you - Hogwarts is essentially a classic British school and that's a good thing!
