Economic inflation is not like grade inflation. One is driven by supply and demand. The other is driven by statistics and competency-based grading. If students master objectives, then why not give them a C? But wait, Cs are for average in a norm-rated system. Remember the Bell curve? In a perfect test, no one answers all the questions correctly, and no one answers all the questions incorrectly. Of course, everyone would like to see a skewed distribution towards the correctly answered end of the curve.
This is a really helpful framing of the lag effect in teacher pay. Do you think that gap is getting worse or just more visible?
